Description
A cute pair of vintage 1950/60's folk art marionette or string puppets. They look like gypsies or could be a granny and gramps. The head and hands are composite, chalk-like material (NOT plastic hands like some from Mexico). About 15" tall on black strings and wood handle. No manufacture markings that I can find. The man is dressed in ivory cotton pants and top with a black striped overtop, wicker hat with colorful ribbons, white hair and mustache, red painted wood feet. He is carrying a wood stick with the colorful ribbons to match the hat. Has a tiny rub on his nose and chin, but otherwise in very good condition. The lady is dressed in ivory pants with a print skirt and apron over top, yellow print top with a blue check scarf around the neck. Has long white hair in 2 braids with blue ribbons at the ends. Painted red lips and blue eyes. She is holding a wicker broom. Has a scuff on nose and back of head/hair is discolored from age or perhaps the glue. All of the clothes are wrinkled and have not been cleaned. The lady's strings are not tangled but the mans are (can be fixed but I can't figure it out). A really cute vintage pair of marionettes!
