Description

These colorful antique Rajasthani Indian puppets are a wonderful conversation piece. I found them on a trip to Jaipur, India in the '80s. Lovingly hand carved and painted by artisans this pretty puppet couple is a part of a long tradition of Indian folk history and ancient public storytelling. She is wearing a colorful bridal lame sari with a petticoat adding fullness to the sari and adorned with traditional Indian jewelry. The groom also is dressed in a very beautiful traditional outfit in the matching lame fabric same as his bride. The entire puppets carving of the head, clothes, and jewelry are all handmade. The clothes are hand sewn from saris and the faces are hand painted and carved from wood. Considering these puppets are almost 40 years old they are as new in mint condition. Both puppets have the attached strings to the arms and feet to maneuver and have them both walking, dancing as he plays his musical instrument to bride.
