Description

Javanese Puppet - Ramayana character in excellent condition. The wooden head and arms are hand carved. Adorned with a batik sarong, velour, sequins and bead work. The arms move in two places and hold the sticks that move them. This one has a wooden stand but it's suggested to place it (there's a 10 inch vertical stick under the clothing) in a wine bottle which provides good stability and fills out the sarong. The purple, white and black paints are bright. It's in amazing condition, pretty much perfect having been held under glass in a collection for nearly 30 years. Estimated age is 40 years.
